The Motorcycle Safety Foundation's (MSF) Introductory Motorcycle Experience (IME) is an introduction to motorcycling designed for those who;
1) Are not sure if motorcycling is for them
2) Want some practice getting used to using a clutch before taking the Basic RiderCourse (BRC1)
This 1 to 1 1/2 -hour lesson will familiarize you with all the motorcycle controls and give you some time to practice using the clutch and throttle. This is a great way to see if riding a motorcycle is for you and to get some practice using the clutch and throttle before attending the BRC1 with other students who may already have experience using a clutch vehicle. The lesson is conducted as a private one-on-one lesson on the weekend at MSU or during the week when MSU doesn't have classes scheduled. The IME is conducted on one of our training motorcycles.
THE IME IS NOT A LEARN TO RIDE COURSE. THE BRC1 IS A LEARN TO RIDE COURSE.
You will need the following;
We are not allowed to conduct the IME unless you have all of the last six items listed above.
HEIGHT REQUIREMENT
You must be able to place both of your feet on the ground when sitting on our training motorcycles. You should be at least 5 feet tall or have a 28 inch inseam. If you cannot place both of your feet on the ground, you will not be allowed to take the IME for safety reasons.
The IME is held at Montclair State University by parking Lot 60 located at 35 Clove Rd in Little Falls behind the student bus platform and the bus garage. (From Rt. 46 East, make a right onto Clove Rd, which is just before McDonalds. Bear right at the traffic circle, make a right after going under the train trestle and go to the end of the lot by our storage container).
The price for the IME is only $99. (There is a $20 discount if you have already registered for a BRC1 course with us. Show your IME instructor your BRC1 confirmation email/tickets). If you cancel your appointment less than one hour before the scheduled lesson or do not show for the lesson, for whatever reason, we reserve the right to add a $20 cancelation fee to the rescheduled lesson.
Email us at RidingAcademy1@aol.com to arrange a date and time for a private lesson. IME's are scheduled from March to October.

"I took the IME before taking the BRC1. So glad I did! I have never driven a car with a clutch. Joann worked with me for awhile until I got the hang of using the clutch and throttle. She was awesome. And what a difference. I was able to keep up with the others in the BRC1. In fact, some of the others in the class were struggling and stalling. I never stalled once. The IME is well worth the time and money"............Maria Cantarios
"My boyfriend tried to teach me how to drive his clutch car a few years ago. Bad, bad experience. I always wanted to learn how to ride a motorcycle but using the clutch worried me. I decided to try the IME. Super Dave was very patient with me and helped me get it. I only stalled the motorcycle once when I took the BRC1. I never stalled after that. Thank you guys. You are really the best" ........ Gloria Reyes
"I wanted to see if motorcycling was for me or not. I took the IME to see what it was like. Loved the feeling. I'm hooked. Took the BRC1 two weeks later".........Bill Sarkowski
