Introductory Motorcycle Experience (IME)

NEVER DRIVEN A CLUTCH VEHICLE BEFORE?

The Introductory Motorcycle Experience (IME) is designed for those who are not sure if motorcycling is for them, and for those who want some practice getting used to using a clutch before taking the Beginner Safety Course (BRC1).

This 1 to 1 1/2 -hour private lesson will familiarize you with all the motorcycle controls and give you some time to practice using the clutch and throttle. This is a great way to see if riding a motorcycle is for you, and to get some practice using the clutch and throttle before attending the BRC1 with other students who may already have experience using the clutch and throttle. The session is conducted as a private one-on-one lesson on the weekend, or during the week when MSU doesn't have classes scheduled. The IME is conducted on one of our training motorcycles.

What Do I Need To Bring and Wear for the IME?

 You will need the following;

  1. Possess the balance ability to ride a bicycle.
  2. Sturdy over-the-ankle footwear (leather preferred) to protect your ankle from injury.
  3. Long non-flare denim pants or material of equivalent, or better, durability.
  4. A long sleeve garment (shirt, sweat shirt, jacket).
  5. Full-fingered gloves (leather preferred) to protect your hands from injury.
  6. Eye-protection (glasses, sunglasses, goggles, face-shield).
  7. Any DOT (Department of Transportation) motorcycle helmet. (We have some full-face motorcycle helmets with face-shields available if you do not have a motorcycle helmet).

We are not allowed to conduct the IME unless you have all of the last six items listed above.

HEIGHT REQUIREMENT

You must be able to place both of your feet on the ground when sitting on our training motorcycles. You must be at least 5 feet tall or have a 28 inch inseam. If you cannot place both of your feet on the ground, you will not be allowed to take the course for safety reasons. (We have a height measurement chart on site).

Practice Riding Location

The IME is held at Montclair State University by parking lot 60 located at 35 Clove Rd in Little Falls behind the student bus platform and the bus garage. (From Rt. 46 East, make a right onto Clove Rd, which is just before Six Brother's Diner and McDonalds. Bear right at the traffic circle, make a right after going under the train trestle and go to the end of the lot by our storage container).

Price

The price for the IME is only $75. (No discounts apply to this course).

How Do I Sign-up for the IME?

Email us at RidingAcademy1@aol.com to arrange a date and time for a private session. IME's are scheduled from mid-March to the end of October.

Testimonials

I took the IME before taking the BRC1. So glad I did! I have never driven a car with a clutch. Joann worked with me for awhile until I got the hang of using the clutch and throttle. She was awesome. And what a difference. I was able to keep up with the others in the BRC1. In fact, some of the others in the class were struggling and stalling. I never stalled once. The IME is well worth the time and money............Maria Cantarios

My boyfriend tried to teach me how to drive his clutch car a few years ago. Bad, bad experience. I always wanted to learn how to ride a motorcycle but using the clutch worried me. I decided to try the IME. Super Dave was very patient with me and helped me get it. I only stalled the motorcycle once when I took the BRC1. I never stalled after that. Thank you guys. You are really the best..........Gloria Reyes

I wanted to see if motorcycling was for me or not. I took the IME to see what it was like. Loved the feeling. I'm hooked. Took the BRC1 two weeks later.........Bill Sarkowski
